BBC seeking amateur artist 2016

The BBC is producing a new series for BBC One which will see amateur artists being mentored by some of the leading names in visual art. School of Art is a primetime series scheduled for later this year and the BBC is looking for anyone with a huge talent and enormous potential to apply. The Cove is on the Western border of Ventnor. A few hundred yards East of the Botanic Gardens, on the A3055, is a house called ‘Pinjara’ where they allow parking on their property. It’s on the seaward side of the road, fronted by a low stone wall. Payment for parking is by ‘honesty box’ (a slot in their garage door). Meet by the low wall. A levelish 200 yard walk leads to the top of the cove, after which there are two steep ways down, via path orsteps. There is a café, and a toilet maintained by the residents of the cove.

Summer Exhibition 2016

Down to the Coast Project 2016

Heritage Lottery Project "Down to the Coast" by Professor Robin McInnes.

The exhibition will run from Saturday 21st May to Friday 27th May from 10am-4pm and is being held in the Old Shop, Ventnor Botanic Gardens.

The IWAC has been selected to participate in this project, looking at how the views of the East Wight Landscape from high ground may have changed, or indeed remained unchanged, since artists depicted the scenery in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Pictures will hang alongside artworks and photographs and contemporary photographs by the IW Photographic Society.

18 pictures have now been submitted by the following IWAC members and we thank them for participating and wish them luck in the competition. There is a £150 first prize.
