The Cove is on the Western border of Ventnor. A few hundred yards East of the Botanic Gardens, on the A3055, is a house called ‘Pinjara’ where they allow parking on their property. It’s on the seaward side of the road, fronted by a low stone wall. Payment for parking is by ‘honesty box’ (a slot in their garage door). Meet by the low wall. A levelish 200 yard walk leads to the top of the cove, after which there are two steep ways down, via path orsteps. There is a café, and a toilet maintained by the residents of the cove.
Heritage Lottery Project "Down to the Coast" by Professor Robin McInnes.
The exhibition will run from Saturday 21st May to Friday 27th May from 10am-4pm and is being held in the Old Shop, Ventnor Botanic Gardens.
The IWAC has been selected to participate in this project, looking at how the views of the East Wight Landscape from high ground may have changed, or indeed remained unchanged, since artists depicted the scenery in the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Pictures will hang alongside artworks and photographs and contemporary photographs by the IW Photographic Society.
18 pictures have now been submitted by the following IWAC members and we thank them for participating and wish them luck in the competition. There is a £150 first prize.
Seventeen pictures were submitted by Club Members in our bid for "Art Club of the Year 2016" staged by the Artist & Leisure Magazine. Nick Martin, Professional Artist and Life Tutor at Quay Arts, Newport had a difficult task, but finally selected the five required entries to go forward.
The entry form and pictures have been submitted digitally together with a profile of the Club's activities and we now anxiously wait to hear if we will go forward to the next stage. 50 Art Clubs have entered and you can view the entries on www.paintersonline.co.uk
FIRST PRIZE £500 worth of Jacksonʼs art materials vouchers, a sponsored demonstration at the selected club venue by a professional art tutor and a profile about the
club published in our magazines, online at PaintersOnline and through our social media channels. TWO RUNNERS UP £250 worth of Jacksonʼs art materials vouchers for each club. PEOPLEʼS CHOICE AWARD £100 worth of Jacksonʼs art materials vouchers for the club with the most public votes
The 5 selected works are:
Becky Sameulson "Solent Sailing"
Galina Zastava "I've just bought a painting"
Julie Roberts "Rocky Pool Wheeers Bay"
Patsy Carter "Stinking Cove"
Sally Pengelly "Evie and Milo"
IWAC was informed on the 15th April 2016 that regrettably the Club was not one of the 10 selected clubs to go forward for the final Exhibition. We look forward to seeing the winning pictures and the entries from other clubs. Disappointing but you have to 'be in it, to win it'.
