There are two levels of membership, Member and Exhibiting Member. The cost to join is the same for both. Membership is open to all, but if you wish to exhibit you have to be an Exhibiting Member. To become an Exhibiting Member, you will be required to present at least five original works, mounted but not necessarily framed, together with proof of study, such as a sketch book or similar. These will be assessed by members of the Council.

What we do

The Isle of Wight Art Club meets each Tuesday afternoon during the winter months at the Riverside Centre in Newport from 2pm - 4pm. A refreshment break half way through the afternoon provides an opportunity to meet other members. There is limited free parking available at the Riverside but you will need to sign in, giving your car registration and the name of the event, i.e. Isle of Wight Art Club Workshop. There are several car parks nearby with pay machines.

We have a mix of workshops and demonstrations during the winter months. The workshops are in three parts: live model for portraiture, still life and an area for you to do your own work. The demonstrations are provided by professional, guest artists covering a variety of media. During the year there are also several one-day study days arranged by the Club featuring professional artists both local or from the mainland. The numbers for these are limited and generally cost £30 per person.

During the summer we organise “Plein Air" sessions on Tuesday mornings at 10am at a variety of outdoor locations, including local beauty spots and places of interest, providing many painting/sketching opportunities. These run from the first Tuesday in May through to the end of September.

Winter and Summer Programmes are published on the website prior to the start of each season and will be available at the Riverside Centre at Tuesday meetings.

The Club stages at least two exhibitions of Members’ work each year.

An elected Council meets bi-monthly to manage the Club's affairs.

Other benefits available to Members and Exhibiting Members are:

  • In house professional artist on hand to give advice if required
  • Once a year opportunity to sell your unwanted artist materials
  • Regular Email Newsletter
  • Discounts at local Art Suppliers and Framers
  • Invitations to Private Views
  • Summer and Winter critiques
  • Priority booking on coach excursions to galleries on the mainland

Subscriptions

The Club subscription is £28 payable by standing order on 1st January each year. The fee for members joining anytime between 1st January to 30th September is £28, and £7 for new members joining between 1st October and 31st December. This is payable in cash at the Club accompanied by a completed Application for Membership form and Bank Standing Order for membership the following full year. Members who have not paid their subs by the 31st January will need to re-apply and if necessary join a waiting list.

We hope you decide to join the Club, where you will find like-minded, mixed ability, enthusiastic and friendly artists.

Please download and complete the application form, and post to the Membership Secretary or you can bring it along to the Riverside Centre any Winter Term Tuesday afternoon from 2pm-4pm.
